Morehouse College’s African American Studies and Business Management Program will host a symposium, “Building Africana Leadership Capacity for the 21st Century,” (BALC21) on April 12, 2016 exploring the building of leadership for a viable civil society (CS) in the Great Lakes Region of Africa and the African Diaspora.

Writer, Jamilah Lemieux brings hard truth about film, Straight Outta Compton’s importance as an active effort to side-step misogyny in Hip Hop and Black Society. “The idea that a group that was so absolutely harsh on black women (and spoke proudly of nihilistic violence against other black men) would be reimagined as some sort of American heroes or champions of blackness is disheartening, although very much consistent with the role rap music has played in popular culture for nearly half of it’s existence.”
